Hi, I’m Jonathan, a South African self-taught composer, pianist, and music theorist. I help beginners and intermediate musicians master music theory, improve piano technique, and enhance their composition and songwriting skills.

My approach is student-centered and flexible, ensuring lessons are tailored to your goals — whether that’s passing an ABRSM or Trinity exam, composing your own music, or just learning for fun!
Great teaching begins with understanding the individual. Every student learns differently, and part of my role as a teacher is finding the approach that helps each person truly connect with an idea.
Not everyone responds to conventional methods of teaching: that doesn’t mean they can’t learn. It simply means the explanation, process, or perspective needs to change.
I take a patient, creative, and student-focused approach to lessons, adapting my teaching style to suit each student’s goals, strengths, and way of thinking. Whether through practical playing, theory, improvisation, songwriting, listening, or visual approaches, I aim to make music feel engaging, understandable, and personal.

Cancellation and rescheduling policy
I understand that life happens, and sometimes lessons need to be rescheduled. To keep things fair for both of us, please note the following:
- Cancellations & Rescheduling: If you need to cancel or reschedule a lesson, please provide at least 24 hours' notice. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged in full.
- Missed Lessons: If you miss a lesson without prior notice, it will be considered a no-show and will not be refunded or rescheduled.
- Emergency Exceptions: I understand that unexpected emergencies can arise. If something urgent comes up, please let me know as soon as possible, and I’ll do my best to accommodate a reschedule.
